Holistic Rubric for Essay Component

The  New Jersey Holistic Scoring  Rubric will be used as a guideline for the  essay question given the first day of school in September. Rising  Freshmen and  Rising Sophomores  will see their question along with their Summer Reading Assignment. Rising Juniors and Rising   Seniors will be given their question on the first day of school.

All students will be allowed to refer to their Journals for the essay. They will then turn in the Journal with their essay. The essay will count for 5% of their first marking period grade and the Journal will count for another 5% of their first marking period grade.

The essay will also serve as both a diagnostic writing sample and indicator of the student’s comprehension and examination of the literature read.

Any questions should be directed to the student’s assigned English teacher by email. This address can be found on the Belvidere High School website.

Click here NJHolisticScoringRubric_MS_HS.doc for a copy of the rubric.
